Oxford Street Christmas lights: New energy efficient lights switched on for first time

New energy efficient Oxford Street Christmas lights were switched on for the first time this year.

Musicians Ms Banks, Joy Crookes and Kojey Radical took part in this year’s opening ceremony on the popular shopping thoroughfare.

They marked 60 years of the festive displays by performing in-store shows.

The display is made up of 27 LED light curtains 220,000 individual lights.

The lights are also 90 per cent more energy efficient than standard lightbulbs.

The brand new design replaces the orb-based lights that have been a fixture for several years.

Oxford Street is home to one of the most high-profile Christmas light displays in London.

Thursday evening's event took place in partnership with Capital XTRA.
