New END. Clothing store opens in Newcastle's former Byron Burger unit as brand expands in city centre in time for Christmas

Popular men's fashion store END. Clothing has taken over a historic building on Newcastle's Grey Street.

The store, which sells luxury and designer fashion, has opened up inside the Grade II listed building that was once home to the Byron Burger chain.

Bold white signs covered the windows of the building for the last few weeks while work was underway to transform the store.

But now the signage has been removed to reveal a striking window display of high-end clothing and designer trainers, with the store's 'END' name written in lights.

Seeing the unit, which faces Grey's Monument, filled at last will be a welcome sight to many in the city after remaining empty since the burger chain closed last year.

The space had been eyed up by famous restaurant chain The Ivy, who sought planning permission last year to turn it into a three-floor brasserie before plans were shelved.

It comes after Newcastle City Council approved plans for END. Clothing to make some alterations to the historic building which included repainting the shop front in dark grey and removing the modern partition walls.

Just like its original branch on Newcastle's Grainger Street, the store will stock luxury and designer fashion, as well as exclusive sport and streetwear.

END, which has its headquarters in Washington, works with more than 400 brands and designers including Gucci, Burberry and Patagonia.

In recent years the Grainger Street store has drawn crowds of shoppers who queued out overnight to get their hands on the Off-White x Nike Air Max 90 trainers when they went on sale.

Michelle Percy, Director of Place at Newcastle City Council, welcomed the opening of the new END. Clothing store.

"It is great to have them in the city and to bring that beautiful building back into use," she said.
