New Edinburgh 'zero waste' store opens inside Leith's Biscuit Factory this week

A new 'zero waste' shop has opened in Leith's Biscuit Factory with the hope of encouraging customers to ditch the plastic.

Beautiful Planet will now be serving shoppers with a huge range of foods that will be weighed and packed into their own containers, saving a huge amount of packaging and waste.

As well as foods, the shop will also stock drinks, oiler, detergents and even dog products, that can be picked up in store.

Launched by Pawel Ferguson, the ethical retailer will offer click and collect services and even delivery if locals need to shop online.

The store itself will be open on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays 10am to 5pm, with 'pop-up days' to be revealed each week on their social media.

A keen cook and lover of the environment, Pawl explained that he has combined his passions for zero waste and food to create Beautiful Planet, an idea which came to life during lockdown.

He added: “Ethical household goods are just some of the things Beautiful Planet have to offer. The days of buying from the supermarket should be a thing of the past and the use of single use plastics also.

"We have not reinvented the wheel – just offer our own approach and style on the supply of zero waste shopping – online, by delivery or in person collection. Beautiful Planet offers a happy and welcoming shop and we cannot wait to meet all our customers .”

Having worked in the hospitality and retail industries for 10 years, Pawel is determined to offer a focussed and ethical approach to the running of Beautiful Planet by working with local and independent suppliers and producers.

Scottish produce includes food and drink from Green City Wholesale (Glasgow), cosmetics from Deeside Lavender (Aberdeenshire), Just Crisps and Oil direct from an independent farmer and Edinburgh based Santu Coffee and Eteaket tea company to name but a few.
