New Edinburgh 'chocolate bar’ opening with cafe, shop, iced drinks and treats

Edinburgh’s new ‘chocolate bar’ is set to open in Stockbridge.

Ocelot Chocolate have just been given permission by the council to open the new café and retail space, selling hot chocolate, iced chocolate and chocolate treats at 11A Portgower Place.

The high-end chocolate will be made on site, with the new shop having its own chocolate manufacturing facility, and customers will be able to sit back in the bar area and watch the chocolate being prepared.

An Ocelot Chocolate spokesperson explained: “The kitchen, manufacturing and production areas will be an integral part of the overall experience of Ocelot Chocolate which is aimed at becoming a destination location for local people as well as visitors to the area and existing Ocelot Chocolate customers.

“The experience of watching the chocolate production is part of what makes Ocelot Chocolate special and unique as it allows customers to immerse themselves in the experience and to see the raw materials being used and manufactured into high quality, sustainable chocolate products.”

The City of Edinburgh Council approved the application from Ocelot Chocolate on September 26.

Ocelot say on the planning application that they hope to replicate this business model at other iconic locations.

Nine new commercial units were recently built on land at Raeburn Place.

The local rugby union team, Edinburgh Academical Football Club, play nearby and the site of Ocelot's new 'chocolate bar' is listed as between 11A Portgower Place and units 4 and 5 Raeburn Place.

The two units at Raeburn Place will be amalgamated to form one existing site.

The kitchen area will be the largest element of the proposed new use in terms of floorspace. The chocolate manufactured on site will be sold in the premises or packaged for distribution.

Ocelot Chocolate is a small independent firm, set up in 2013, and initially sold at farmers markets and the like.

They now have eight flavours: Eggnog, Black Cherry, Buckwheat, Violet Milk, White Almond, Sea Salt and Blood Orange, and sell their produce to places like Harrods of London.
