New Edinburgh Burnshot Bridge to open over the A90 from next week

A major new bridge that connects Kirkliston to Edinburgh will open next week after a three-year wait.

The original Burnshot Bridge was demolished in 2017 due to deteriorating joints, but now Councillor Lesley Macinnes has confirmed that the new version of the bridge will be finished by next week.

The highly anticipated transport link on the A90 was due to be finished earlier this year but was delayed due the coronavirus lockdown.

The new Burnshot Bridge will have improved cycling and pedestrian facilities, designed with input from active travel groups, including a segregated eastbound cycle lane and a shared-use path.

The building of the bridge has slowed down traffic with a temporary 40mph speed limit placed on parts of the A90 - but it has now been confirmed that the bridge will open on Wednesday.

In a Twitter post, Councillor Macinnes confirmed the news saying: "Pleased to say that the extensive, challenging work on the Burnshot bridge over the last three years will be completed on Wed. The bridge will then be fully open.

"Many congratulations to the 200 strong team who have completed this major project @Edinburgh_CC.”
