New e-commerce site set up exclusively for independent Edinburgh businesses amid coronavirus outbreak

Edinburgh businesses are being encouraged to sign up to a new online marketplace amid the coronavirus outbreak.

With lockdown forcing many shops to close their doors, three local residents have sought to help independent business in the capital.

Localburgh is designed to connect customers to their favourite stores using a new e-commerce platform - which is exclusively focused on Edinburgh.

Shoppers can find local suppliers who are ready to provide them goods and services at the simple click of a button.

The site features everything from toy stores to fudge makers, with more businesses being encouraged to sign up.

The founders say businesses and traders can sign up for free, manage their own inventory and use their own delivery methods.

Sean Errey, co-founder of Localburgh said: “With independent businesses being particularly vulnerable to the economic shock of this crisis, we saw it fit to take action and lend a helping hand using the skills we had available to us.

"We hope this platform will inspire Edinburgh consumers to reconsider their purchasing habits.

"As a community we have a big decision to make during this pandemic. We need to decide where and who we purchase from both now and immediately following the lockdown as this will shape the coming years."

Michael Mangus, co-founder of Bambu Living Sustainably said: “From a local business standpoint, I know that others like us are unlikely to have the financial reserves to survive the unpredictable times ahead.

"However, in trying times such as this, we want to ensure that we are able to meet our customers’ requirements as best we can, maintain our presence and connect with other independent businesses across Edinburgh. Localburgh is enabling us to do all of the above with a minimal effort on our part.”

You can find Localburgh here.
