New drop-in clinics for Covid vaccination announced as Lanarkshire numbers spike

Additional Covid vaccination drop-in clinics are being run by NHS Lanarkshire during the next two weeks.

The health board is extending its programme of extra sessions for over-18s who have not had a first dose of the vaccination, or who has waited eight weeks or more for their second.

Sessions will also increase the number of appointments available for rebooking, and will take place at nine venues across North and South Lanarkshire.

Drop-in clinics will take place daily from 8.30am to 7.30pm at the area’s two vaccination centres at Ravenscraig sports facility in Motherwell and the Alistair McCoist complex in East Kilbride.

The other venues will run sessions from 9am to 5pm each day – starting Thursday, June 30 and July 1, at both the Time Capsule in Coatbridge and Whitehill neighbourhood centre in Hamilton.

Further clinics will then take place at the Hamilton venue on July 4, 5 and 7; and at the Coatbridge leisure facility on July 10 and 11.

Drop-in sessions are also arranged for Muirfield community centre in Cumbernauld on July 2, 3, 7, 8 and 9; and at St Nicholas church hall in Lanark on July 2, 3 and 9.

Vaccinations will be available at Sir Matt Busby sports complex in Bellshill on July 4, 5 and 6; Stonehouse Lifestyles on July 6 and 8; and at Fernhill community centre in Rutherglen on July 10 and 11.

Dr Mark Russell, who is leading the Covid-19 immunisation programme in Lanarkshire, said: “These drop-in clinics will help us to vaccinate our communities as quickly as possible and allow us to get back to the things we’ve missed.

“To make the clinics more convenient we have also added rebooking appointments on the same days as the drop-in clinics.

“It means that people can reschedule their booked appointment if it suits them better. People can also cancel their booked appointment and attend a drop-in clinic.

“We are doing all we can to make sure attending for a vaccination is as easy as possible.”

He added: “There is light at the end of the tunnel and we need to make sure that our vaccination uptake is as high as possible to allow us to continue on our road back to normality.”
