New drive-through testing centre opens in Caerphilly as county heads back into lockdown

A temporary drive-through testing facility is set to open in Caerphilly as the county heads back into lockdown.

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board has confirmed it is opening the new facility at Penallta House council offices in Ystrad Mynach from Tuesday, September 8.

It has been opened in response to a surge of coronavirus cases in Caerphilly and due to significant demand for tests at the temporary facility outside Caerphilly Leisure Centre which will remain open for another week.

At the drive through centre patients can pull up and have a test through their car window. The health board said there are strict safety measures in place to protect both staff members and people coming for a test.

Mererid Bowley, interim director of public health for Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, said: "This new drive through facility allows us to increase capacity and test more people with symptoms of Coronavirus.

"This temporary testing centre will help us learn more about the rate of infection in Caerphilly, and will help us protect the residents of Caerphilly county borough.

"I’d encourage people who live in the Caerphilly area, if you have symptoms of a cough, loss of taste or smell, fever or even just feel slightly unwell, please come and get a free test.”

Track new cases where you live:

The drive through testing centre will be at Penallta House council offices, Tredomen Business Park, Ystrad Mynach, CF82 7PG.

It will be operational from Tuesday, September 8 until Tuesday, September 15. The opening hours will be 9am to 6pm.

You must arrive in car or small van. The test centre is only for residents of Caerphilly county borough and ID checks are in place.

If you are unsure about the symptoms, please use the NHS Wales online symptom checker, or call 111 for help and advice

For people who live outside the Caerphilly County Borough area, there are other testing facilities available in Gwent - at Rodney Parade in Newport and Cwm in Blaenau Gwent. You can also have a test posted to your home. Apply online at www.gov.wales or phone 119.
