New Dragons' Den star previously invested in scheme that was closed down by HMRC

New Dragons’ Den entrepreneur Sara Davies previously invested in a renewable energy scheme that was wound up by HMRC.

She was one of dozens of investors who put £241million into Elysian Fuels partnerships, which was closed down by HMRC at the High Court in January 2016 over a £5.2million unpaid VAT bill.

Davies is also a director of Sara & Simon, which was £27,458 in the red at the time of its latest accounts.

And she was a director for just over a year until November 2015 at Bibee Maternity, which went into voluntary liquidation.

Davies earned £121,800 last year from the firm, which made a £157,762 profit on £24million turnover up to April 2018, according to the latest accounts.

BBC bosses insist she has “demonstrated she has the wealth required.” A spokesman said: “All Dragons are subject to rigorous due diligence.”
