New doctor, 24, gets job alongside mum and dad who work in same hospital

A proud mum and dad who both work for the NHS are overjoyed after their son qualified as a junior doctor and is now works alongside them at the same hospital.

Aneesh Ninan, 24, chose to join his parents in his first role as a junior doctor as he wanted to be close to his family and friends.

Mum Mini, 57, an ICU nurse, said she's already seen her son on her ward, but is still getting used to not being called 'Mum'.

She and husband Mathew, 60, a catering assistant, have a combined 35 years of service at West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.

Mini said: "My husband and I were thrilled to find out Aneesh successfully applied to West Suffolk Hospital.

"We are incredibly proud that after his six years of hard work, he decided to come to the same hospital as us.

"It has been lovely to see my son occasionally come to ITU during ward rounds or to check on his patients, but it's odd to not hear him call me Mum!"

Mini and Mathew played a key role in the Covid-19 pandemic, with Mini caring for coronavirus patients and Mathew providing food for staff and patients.

Aneesh, who graduated from Imperial College London, said: "When applying to different hospitals I knew I wanted to apply somewhere that was close to friends and family and having grown up in East Anglia, it made sense to apply to West Suffolk Hospital.

"I checked the General Medical Council's survey of training doctors and West Suffolk was ranked highly in the region. I'm delighted to continue my career journey here."

Craig Black, interim chief executive at the Trust, said: "Both Mini and Mathew have been great assets to our Trust for many years and were both at the forefront of our efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic.

"I want to personally wish Aneesh a very warm welcome to West Suffolk and wish him all the best as he takes the first steps in his career.

"It speaks volumes for the Trust as a friendly and welcoming place to work that people are so happy to recommend us to their families and friends."
