New direct flights between the UK and Faroe Islands to launch for summer 2020

Visiting the Faroe Islands is about to get a little easier for Brits thanks to brand new direct flights launching for summer 2020.

Atlantic Airways, the Faroese national carrier, has announced a new direct service between London Gatwick to Vágar Airport.

The seasonal route will take off from the 23rd June 2020 and will last until the 11th August 2020.

It marks the first time in six years that the carrier will offer a direct route, having previously operated a seasonal service from London Stansted.

The new route will be weekly on Tuesdays, with a flight time approximately of around 2 hours and 10 minutes.

Tickets are going on sale from the 26th February on the Atlantic Airways website. Return fares will start from £170pp.

The Faroe Islands are sure to be a hit with those who love a bit of adventure. The islands offer heaps of opportunity for the curious from hiking to diving, as well as shopping and sightseeing.

Highlights include the village of Gjógv, the Skansin fort, or the Vetmanna Bird Cliffs, but there are heaps of charming towns and breathtaking landscapes waiting to be explored.

Oh, and one for sports fans - it's also home to one of the world's most amazing football pitches.

Guðrið Højgaard, Director at Visit Faroe Islands said: "We’re really pleased to hear that Atlantic Airways will be starting to fly directly from London again this summer.

"With steady growth in visitor numbers to the Faroe Islands - around 10% last year - there is certainly demand for a London flight.

"We look forward to welcoming more visitors who enjoy remote destinations, birdwatching, sailing, hiking, rappelling, photography and other low-impact ways of exploring their way around our beautiful islands this year."
