New details emerge over Everton's deadline day signing of goalkeeper Robin Olsen

Everton do not have an option to buy Robin Olsen as part of the loan agreement which brought him in from AS Roma.

The Blues signed the 30-year-old goalkeeper on deadline day in a deal which will see the Swedish international stay at Goodison until June 30 next year.

But the Blues did not negotiate a clause which would allow them to buy Olsen, for a pre-agreed price, in the loan contract.

It is understood that Everton did not pay a fee to sign Olsen but they are expected to pick up his wages in full.

The Roma stopper has been brought in to provide further competition for first-choice Jordan Pickford, who has made a string of errors since Carlo Ancelotti arrived at the club, last December.

Asked recently if back-up goalkeepers Jonas Lossl and Joao Virginia were putting enough pressure on Pickford, Ancelotti told reporters: "They put on him, the right pressure, as a No2 or a No3 they put pressure on the first goalkeeper."

But Everton still pursued a new goalkeeper on deadline day and confirmed the signing of Olsen on loan, at just after the 11pm cut-off point.

Given that Ancelotti said he wanted to work with a 25 man squad, including three goalkeepers, it is expected that one of Lossl and Virginia will now go out on loan.

Everton can do business with clubs in the EFL until 5pm on October 16 while the transfer window in Russia is open until October 17 and the one in Portugal open until October 25.
