New Derry street art installations bring burst of colour city

A number of new murals have appeared on the streets of Derry.

Well known graffiti art duo UV Arts recently ran the Roots Art Festival in the city, bringing over a number of street artists to make their mark in creating new Derry art.

Karl Porter Director at UV Arts said: “As a nation, Ireland's diaspora spans continents, with our roots running deep within the creative scene on an international level.

"The festival sought to highlight those roots, featuring some of the most famous and most recognised street artists from around the world. All of which descend from Celtic origins, with some even tracing their lineage back to the North West.”

Here are some of the new pieces displayed in Derry:

  • Bonds Street, Derry

This striking piece in the Waterside area of Derry sits adjacent to another mural of an unspecified woman. This piece has already caught the eye of many who marvel at its beauty.

  • Jack's Bar, Derry

The Donegal Bus is a staple to all in the North West. This caricature brings the common Derry-Donegal journey to life, and is enjoyed by all who walk past.

  • Great James St. Derry

Great James St is becoming a hub for Derry street art, with the Derry Lama mural drawing in tourists and residents alike. This new colourful installation immediately draws the eye to the street and its high buildings, and is a hypnotising mix of colour.

  • Great James St. Derry

Maritime history and culture is never far away in the North West, and this mural encapsulates that. This cheerful puffin will be enough to brighten anyone's day.

  • Carlisle Road, Derry.

Finally, this homage to the Maiden City is filled with Derry symbolism, from the River Foyle, to iconic buildings, to acorns and oak leaves. It is the great and good of the city merged into one striking piece of artwork.
