
Fresh tuna are lined up for the first auction of the year at Choshi fishing port in Choshi, Chiba Prefecture, on Saturday. About 36 tons of tuna, swordfish and other fish were landed at the port on the day. After assessing the fat of each offering, brokers auctioned them one after another. Last year, Choshi fishing port had a haul of more than 280,000 tons, possibly making it the port with the largest landing volume for nine consecutive years.
