New dawn for Tower of the Sun

People tour the inside of the Tower of the Sun (right) in Suita, Osaka Prefecture, on Monday, the first day that members of the public could enter its interior. Monday morning saw about 300 people visit the structure, which was recently restored to its original condition from the Expo '70 world's fair in Osaka. Now located in the Expo '70 Commemorative Park, the tower is one of artist Taro Okamoto's most iconic creations. Its interior was closed to the public after the expo due to concerns over its ability to withstand earthquakes. The Osaka prefectural government began work to reinforce the tower in autumn 2016.
