New date announced for Sunderland's home game against Fleetwood Town

Sunderland's League One game against Fleetwood Town at the Stadium of Light has reverted to its original date after this weekend's clash was postponed due to a Covid outbreak at the Lancashire club.

The game will now be played on Tuesday, February 23, with kick-off at 7.45pm.

The clubs had agreed to bring the fixture forward to this Saturday, January 9, because both have been knocked out of the FA Cup which left them with a free weekend.

That decision was made on December 22, but on New Year's Eve the rearranged game was postponed when Fleetwood told the EFL that it could not fulfil the fixture after returning a number of positive Covid tests, meaning several other players and staff had to self-isolate.

Sunderland still have four games of their own to reschedule, having postponed their trips to Shrewsbury Town and Accrington Stanley, along with the home games against Hull City and Blackpool following a Covid outbreak at the Academy of Light before Christmas.

Hull's game against Wigan, which was due to be played this weekend, has been postponed due to the Latics reporting positive Covid tests, and there is a possibility that Sunderland could therefore play the Tigers on Saturday.
