New dance school could open in Hebburn

Plans for a new dance school in South Tyneside have been lodged with council planners.

Earlier this year, Middleton School of Dance lodged an application to set up a new base in Hebburn.

This includes converting a former shop space on 1 Victoria Road East and offering classes on weekends and some week nights.

According to planning documents, the property has been vacant for around two years.

Floor plans for the dance school include three studios across two floors, alongside kitchen and toilet facilities.

If approved, soundproofing will be put in place to allow music to be played during lessons.

Middleton School of Dance is run by qualified dance teacher Ami Middleton and is currently based at Hedley Community Hall in the town.

The school provides training for children aged three plus in ballet, tap and modern/jazz.

A statement on the firm’s Facebook page says the classes provide a “safe, fun and happy environment” while also promoting “positivity, teamwork and achievement”.

A decision on the dance school plan is expected from South Tyneside Council this year.
