New daily record for COVID cases in Tasmania, but no patients in ICU

The state is closing in on all residents being vaccinated.

Tasmania has recorded 44 new COVID-19 cases, a daily record.

It brings the total number of active cases in the state to 160, with 100 cases recorded in the past three days.

Eighty six of the cases are receiving medical treatment at home, 33 are in medi-hotels and one is in hospital receiving treatment for an unrelated medical condition.

There are no people being treated in ICU.

In a statement, the Department of Health said 97.52 per cent of people over the age of 16 had received their first doses of vaccination, with 92.61 per cent at second dose.

No positive results from exposure to RHH staffer

In an update to news a staff member at the Royal Hobart Hospital was found to be COVID-positive on Christmas eve, authorities said all close contacts had so far returned negative tests.

"As a precautionary measure, all patients who were present in the same place as the staff member during their infectious period are being managed as close contacts," the government said in a statement on Sunday.

"These patients have all returned negative COVID-19 tests today, four or five days since any potential exposure.

"These patients will continue to be closely monitored."

A list of exposure sites is regularly updated on the Tasmanian government's website.

Information about travel can be found on the department of health website.
