New Cumnock pervert caught in sex trap after telling 'teenage boy' he would pay him for sex

A pervert told a 'teenage boy' he would pay him for sex.

David Robertson, was snared after a sting operation by Child Protectors Scotland, whose mission is to expose adults who groom minors on the internet, caught him attempting to meet their decoy at a leisure centre in Cumnock.

The 42-year-old was duped by a decoy who pretended to be a 15-year-old on the online dating app Grindr, which is geared towards gay, bi and trans people.

Robertson, who appeared in the dock at Ayr Sheriff Court alongside a support worker, admitted sending the boy a number of inappropriate messages including asking him to preform a sex act on his own dad.

In an exchange of messages Robertson asked the boy if he was horny to which the decoy replied: “I don’t really know what that means”.

Robertson then asked “Do you want sex?” to which the witness responded: “I’ve never done it before. I’m 15 so haven’t tried.”

Depute fiscal Kim McGregor told the court: “The accused said ‘I can pay you for sex and you can f*** me’ and repeatedly asked him to go round to his house.

“The decoy replied he was worried he would get into trouble before confirming he would come the following Friday.”

The pair never met but spoke over the phone where Robertson didn’t say anything sexual but the witness believed he was performing a sex act on himself due to his heavy breathing.

Members of Child Protectors Scotland agreed to carry out a sting to interrogate Robertson and a meeting was arranged between him and the decoy to meet at a swimming pool in Cumnock.

Robertson stated he would be wearing a black jacket and blue jeans.

Child Protectors Scotland members saw Robertson - then of New Cumnock - getting off the bus in Auchinleck Road and engaged in a conversation with him.

One witness showed photos of himself pretending to be the decoy teenager.

Police were contacted immediately who attended at the leisure centre and arrested Robertson.

Officers seized his phone and interviewed him where he spoke freely.

Robertson told officers: “Well I was on the gay website and that’s where it started.”

He was asked if he had any interest in children sexually and originally replied no.

But he later said “I suppose I do yes” after admitting that he asked the teen to have sex with him, which officers questioned why would he ask a child that.

The diet was adjourned for reports and Robertson, now of Dubbs Road, Stevenston, will reappear in court next month.

He was placed on the sex offenders register.
