March 19--Jon Lester, the Chicago Cubs' $155-million man, has settled into his new surroundings in style, buying a home near Wrigley Field for $3.777 million.
Set behind a wrought iron gate, the limestone-clad residence is highlighted by a free-flowing floor plan with hardwood floors, delicate molding and wall treatments within 7,000 square feet. Among its features is a chef's kitchen, a gym, a wood-paneled study/media room and a penthouse-level den with another bar.
The master suite, one of five bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms, is outfitted with a soaking tub and a custom dressing room. An elevator services the home's three levels.
Outdoors, a bluestone terrace and a pair of decks invite entertaining. Elsewhere is a four-car garage.
Jennifer Ames of Coldwell Banker was the listing agent. Chris Wegren of Century 21 Kreuser Seiler represented the buyer in the sale, which was first reported by Crain's Chicago Business.
Lester, one of the more coveted arms on the free agent market this off-season, signed a six-year pact with the Cubs in December that will pay him an average of $25.8 million a year. The 31-year-old pitcher compiled a 16-11 record with an earned run average of 2.46 in 32 starts for the Red Sox and A's last season.
