New Cross stabbing: Man and woman charged with murder after attack in south-east London

A man and a woman have been charged with murder after a fatal stabbing in New Cross.

Police were called to reports of man with stab wounds at a home in Monson Road shortly after 7.25pm on Saturday.

Officers responded alongside the London Ambulance Service and medics from London’s Air Ambulance and found Ayowale Aladejana, 26, had been stabbed.

Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, Mr Aladejana died at the scene.

A post-mortem examination took place on Sunday and gave a preliminary cause of death as stab wound to the chest.

Mr Aladejana’s family continue to be supported by specialist officers. Ben Wazabanga, 23, from Bedford, was charged with murder and possession of a knife on Monday.

Ronique Belfon, 23, also from Bedford, was also charged with murder on Monday. The pair will both appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.

Detective Chief Inspector Lucie Card, who is leading the investigation, said: “Our thoughts are with Ayowale’s family and friends at this difficult time.

“I understand this incident will be concerning and we are carrying out a fast-paced and thorough investigation to establish the circumstances.

“I would encourage anyone who has not yet spoken to us to do so.”
