New Covid map shows neighbourhood hotspots with most cases across South Lanarkshire

Almost half of new coronavirus cases reported in South Lanarkshire last week were in the Hamilton area.

In total, 888 confirmed cases were reported across the region according to figures published by Public Health Scotland - with 389 of those in the Hamilton area.

Some neighbourhoods in the area had a rate of more than six new cases for every 1000 residents last week, more than five times the national average  of 1.34 per 1,000 residents.

Everywhere in the region saw an increase in cases last week with 211 new cases recorded in Rutherglen and Cambuslang, 181 in East Kilbride and Avondale and 107 in Clydesdale.

For every 1000 residents in the Hamilton area, 3.85 new cases were reported last week.

Rutherglen and Cambuslang (3.35) also saw more than three cases for every 1000 residents but the level of new cases in Clydesdale (1.76) and East Kilbride and Avondale (1.89) were lower.

Hareleeshill was the neighbourhood which saw the most new coronavirus cases reported in South Lanarkshire last week at 31.

It was also the area with the most cases per 1000 residents at 7.75.

Hamilton Centre and Low Parks (25), Little Earnock (25), Larkhall Central, Raploch, Millheugh and Burnhead (24), Blantyre South and Wheatlands (23), Strutherhill (22) and Merryton and Meadowhill (20) in the Hamilton area as well as Farme Cross and Gallowflat North (22) and Halfway, Hallside and Drumsagard (21) in Rutherglen and Cambuslang all recorded at least 20 new cases last week.

Nerston and EK Landward area recorded the most cases in East Kilbride and Avondale at 18 while Law (14) recorded the highest case numbers in Clydesdale.

Lanark North East was the only neighbourhood in the whole of South Lanarkshire not to record a single new coronavirus case last week.
