New covid lockdown changes come into effect as restrictions continue to ease in Scotland

Covid rules around Scotland will see a major relaxation today as the country continues to gradual ease out of lockdown.

The Scottish Government route map confirms that as of today, the whole country will move from level 4 restrictions down to level 3.

This means that non-essential retail will now be able to fully reopen after earlier only being able to provide click and collect services.

Whilst retailers will implement procedures to ensure the safety of customers and staff, it is an individual’s responsibility to ensure they comply with guidance, by not visiting if they have symptoms, wearing a mask and keeping social distances.

Meanwhile, the hospitality industry will begin to reopen, with indoor dining permitted without alcohol in restaurants, bars and cafes until 8pm. The maximum number of people who can meet indoors in public is six, from no more than two households. Outdoors in beer gardens, however, alcohol will be permitted until 10pm.

Gyms will also be able to reopen from today, as well as swimming pools.

Meanwhile, tourist attractions such as museums, galleries, and educational and heritage sites will also be welcoming back visitors from today.
