Coronavirus cases are up across 61% of places in the UK - with a London borough now recording the highest infection rate.
Lambeth has overtaken South Northamptonshire as the worst-hit area in the country, after the mutant strain became dominant in the capital.
The borough recorded 3,098 new cases in the seven days to December 12 - the equivalent of 962.7 per 100,000 people.
This is up from 509.6 in the seven days to December 5 - an 88 per cent increase.
Of the 377 local areas in the UK, 231 have seen a week-on-week rise in rates, 144 (38%) have seen a fall and two are unchanged.
London boroughs now make up nine of 20 UK places with the highest Covid rates, while the five places to see the largest jump in infections are in the capital.
Earlier today the government confirmed 88,376 people had tested positive for Covid in 24 hours - the highest figure of the pandemic so far and a 73.7 per cent increase in just a week.
Department of Health figures show a further 146 lives have been lost to the virus as the UK is hit by the "tidal wave of Omicron " which Boris Johnson warned of at the weekend.
South Northamptonshire has the second highest rate, up from 876.5 to 931.0, with 889 new cases while Southwark in London has the third highest rate, up from 478.7 to 929.6, with 2,975 new cases.
Newry, Mourne & Down has the highest rate in Northern Ireland (782.7, down from 851.5); West Lothian has the highest rate in Scotland (684.4, up from 411.3); and the Isle of Anglesey has the highest rate in Wales (682.9, down from 836.2)
The five UK areas with the biggest week-on-week rises are all in London:

Yesterday England's chief medical officer, Prof Chris Whitty, said Omicron was now the dominant strain in London, where hospitalisations are beginning to rise.
He told a Downing Street press conference last night: "I am afraid we have to be realistic that records will be broken a lot as rates continue to increase in the next few weeks."
Prof Whitty said that the full impact of Omicron would be apparent in weeks to come, but painted a bleak picture.
"There are lots of things we don’t know, but all the things we do know are bad," he said.
"There will be substantial numbers (in hospital), that will become apparent after Christmas… that is a reasonably nailed on prospect."
The first two cases of Omicron were identified in the UK on November 27.
