New COVID-19 cases fall by almost a quarter in South Lanarkshire

New coronavirus cases in South Lanarkshire fell by almost a quarter last week.

Figures published by Public Health Scotland revealed 127 new cases of the virus between Saturday, April 3 and Friday, April 9 – that's down 22.5 per cent on the previous week.

It was the fourth consecutive week that new COVID-19 cases fell after a three week spell where numbers remained fairly static. Case numbers in the region are now at their lowest level since September, with just 0.4 cases per 1000 residents recorded last week.

Nerston and EK Landward area (11) was the only neighbourhood to record more than eight cases last week.

Lanark North East had the highest rate of new cases last week at 1.83 per 1000 residents.

Across South Lanarkshire, 66 of the 82 neighbourhoods recorded fewer than three new COVID-19 cases last week – up from 57 in the previous week.

Crosshouse and Lindsayfield (eight), Forth, Braehead and Auchengray (six) and Halfway, Hallside and Drumsagard (six) were the only other neighbourhoods to record at least six new cases last week.

Birniehill, Kelvin and Whitehills East (1.02), Burnhill and Bankhead North (1.51), Carluke West (1.06), Crosshouse and Lindsayfield (1.49), Forth, Braehead and Auchengray (1.68), Nerston and EK Landward area (1.49) and Woodhead and Meikle Earnock (1.1) were the only other neighbourhoods to record at least one case for every 1000 residents.
