New countryside village planned for Ayrshire farm

A new bid is being made to stretch Ayr into the countryside with a multi-million pound village.

The elevated site at Glenparks Farm is behind Ayr and Ailsa hospitals.

The spot has been eyed by developers for decades and is classed as being in the “South Ayr Expansion Area.”

The new bid envisages 250 homes, small shops, a food and drink outlet, a care home and a creche.

The developer and landowner is 74-year-old Robert Wilson, who lives in Christchurch, Dorset.

He already has “significant interest” from national builders.

Exact details of the layout of building on the 24-acre site have not yet been revealed.

A “Proposal of Application Note” has been issued for the site

But this will spark a consultation period with a Covid-proof website based platform rather than the usual display at a local hall.

The site - currently two large fields - bounds the congested A713 which has regular delays approaching the roundabout on the A77.

The development is unconnected with the on-off plans to build 2,700 homes, a supermarket and school over 450 acres of farmland at Corton.

That site is on the other side of the hospitals, bounded by the Girvan rail line, and stretching down to the A77 where a new roundabout and footbridge were planned.

A website detailing the Glenparks plans will go live next month and a public webcast is planned for September 23.

Architect Tim Ferguson of Ferguson Planning, who is acting for developer Robert Wilson’s firm Wilsons Hampshire Ltd,said: “We are delighted to lodge the Proposal of Application Notice for a major residential led masterplan on lands adjacent to Ayr Hospital and known locally as Glenparks. This proposal provides much needed high quality and affordable homes. The proposal will entail a care home and small neighbourhood services.

“Glenparks forms part of the allocated South East Ayr expansion area but very much stands on its own two feet .

“Subject to the necessary planning permissions being in place the intention would be to bring the site forward with immediate effect.

“Further details of the proposed masterplan will be made available via a dedicated consultation website during September and with the hope being to lodge the application to the council sometime in October.

“During the consultation process the landowner and consultant team seek to engage positively with local people to gain their thoughts and opinions on the plans.”
