A new councillor has been elected to represent the area served by Bolton Council's former leader until his death earlier this year.
Conservative candidate Amy Cowen claimed an overwhelming victory after voters in the Bromley Cross ward went to the polls yesterday (October 28).
David Greenhalgh had been leader of the council from 2019 until he passed away earlier this year.
The result was announced late last night, with the Tory candidate receiving 70% of the votes.
She becomes Bromley Cross' third Conservative councillor, filling the vacancy left behind by the late council leader David Greenhalgh.
Following the result, Ms Cowen wrote on Facebook: "We did it! I want to say thank you to all the people who’ve supported my campaign.
"This has been an incredible journey but only the beginning.
"To secure 70% of the vote means the world to me and I am honoured to have been given this opportunity to represent the area I’ve grown up in."
Ms Cowen joins Coun Samantha Connor and Coun Nadim Muslim as Bromley Cross' Conservative representatives on Bolton Council.
David Greenhalgh had represented Bromley Cross for many years before becoming the council's first Conservative leader in four decades back in 2019.
Following his sad death on July 29, a by-election was called last month to elect a new member for the Bromley Cross ward.
Labour candidate Emily Mort finished second with 16.5% of the vote, while Green Party candidate Liz Spencer received 6.7%.
Laura Armstrong, standing for independent group Bolton For Change, picked up 4% of the vote - while James Haslam of the Liberal Democrats received 2.7%.
