‘New Costco fear unlocked’: Texas woman buys 3-pack of milk from Costco. Then she notices something off about the packaging

Sometimes, you can cry over spilled milk, especially after half a gallon of it from Costco pours into your car.

In a clip with 1.4 million views, Texas-based mother Kaitlyn (@kaitlynsxo1) walks into her kitchen and heads toward her counter, where her groceries are scattered. When she approaches the three-pack of half-gallon Kirkland Signature Organic Lactose-Free 2% Reduced Fat Milk in a cardboard box, the middle and left cartons have an extra lid hole, revealing the white contents inside.

“Look at this. There’s two different sides of the milk,” she says, baffled as she unscrews the correct cap on the middle one.

Like most retailers, Costco doesn’t manufacture its own milk, as The Cornucopia Institute states. As a result of this manufacturing error, a mess was created.

“Half of each spilled in my car,” she says, tapping on two of the milks back to back.

Because of this, Kaitlyn demands in the text overlay, “Costco count your days!!!”

Viewers were repulsed

Many were disgusted by this, mainly because they were terrified of the potential stench of rotting milk.

“New Costco fear unlocked,” one viewer said.

“Omg girl that milk smell is gonna be there forever,” a second commented.

“I’d be returning AND asking for them to cover the cost of my car detail too,” a third stated.

Moreover, others suggested that Kaitlyn return the milk and receive a refund.

“Queen please return these and get your refund! Also call and report this! Likely it’s probably a bad batch and there are others!” one commenter urged

“Yeah return them and get your money back,” another echoed.

What did Kaitlyn do with milk cartons from Costco?

Costco prides itself on its “Risk-Free 100% satisfaction guarantee” return policy and even ranks number one out of the top six best retailer return policies in 2023, according to U.S. News and World Report. Recently, the wholesaler accepted a rug stained with slime. With that said, the content creator listened to the viewers’ advice and received a refund for the defective milk cartons.

“Yes! We returned them!” Kaitlyn replied in the comments section.

As a few viewers feared, the milk stains haven’t completely disappeared a week after the original clip was posted. In a follow-up video, the content creator lifts the trunk cover with blue rubber gloves, unveiling tons of dried, crusty milk stuck between the trunk’s metal crevices.

“Been over a week and we are still finding dried milk,” Kaitlyn shares in the text overlay, followed by several green puking emojis.

How to remove dried milk from your car

If you ever end up in Kaitlyn’s situation, here are the steps from Your Mechanic to tackle it before it stains:

  1. Soak up the spill with a microfiber or paper towel
  2. Remove the floor mats
  3. Steam clean it with a cleaning solution mixed with hot water
  4. Let it air dry for 12 hours
  5. If the smell lingers, you can use baking soda, enzyme spray, or carpet cleaner

The Mary Sue reached out to Kaitlyn via TikTok comment and direct message as well as Costco via media contact form.
