New Costa Coffee drive-thru on London Road given go ahead

A new Costa Coffee drive-thru outlet will soon be built in Glasgow's east end after planners gave the proposal the green light.

The food and drink venue will be located on 2239 London Road, just off the M74 motorway.

Glasgow City Council approved Costa's plans this week, subject to conditions.

The council planning decision notice states: "The proposal was considered to be in accordance with the Development Plan and there were no material considerations which outweighed the proposal's accordance with the Development Plan."

The proposal, submitted to the council in February of this year, includes proposals for 28 parking spaces, with two disabled bays, in the scheme.

Documents state: “The proposed new unit will be a freestanding, modern, single storey drive thru coffee shop.

“It is our view that the proposed coffee shop will complement the existing retail offer and add to the vitality of the area.

“We therefore trust the application can be considered positively, and that planning permission is granted.”

Meanwhile, the approved proposal includes for the new venue to operate a 24 hour service: “Given the location of the proposed development, which is separated from the nearest residential development by a tree buffer and its proximity to London Road, a main arterial route, the 24-hour operation hours will not give rise to any amenity concerns,” the report adds.

A McDonald's, KFC and a Premier Inn hotel sit opposite the site.
