(Picture: PA)The UK was hit with 33,904 new Covid-19 infections on Wednesday and 111 more deaths were recorded in the latest government data.
Coronavirus daily infections were at their highest this week as they jumped into the 30,000s.
There were more than 100 deaths for a second day in a row this week after Tuesday marked the deadliest day in five months since the middle of March.
Deaths had climbed to 170 on Tuesday which was the highest number since March 12 when 175 deaths were recorded.
The vaccination rollout continues to be a huge success in the UK.
A total of 88,401,088 jabs have been given in the UK, 40,987,846 second doses have been received.
Earlier on Wednesday, it emerged fears a surf festival which could have caused a spike in Covid infections in Cornwall has become the centre of an investigation by Public Health officials
Authorities have been monitoring the data after a number of people who attended the Boardmasters Festival in Cornwall tested positive for the virus.
The five-day event in Newquay finished on Sunday which means any impact on infections will not be officially known until later this week.
But several people have claimed they tested positive for Covid since attending.
All ticket holders had to show proof of double vaccination, natural immunity or a recent negative lateral flow test to enter the site.
