New coronavirus food bank tool to find the nearest one to you - and help them

A new tool on the Liverpool Echo website will help you fight coronavirus and give vital support for some of the most vulnerable in Merseyside.

Developed by hyperlocal news platform InYourArea and charity Give Food, the special widget allows you to see where the nearest foodbank is to you, what items they are short of and how to donate to them.

All you have to do is put in your postcode.

Once you see the closest site to you, click on the Make a Donation button which tells you the opening hours for the foodbank.

If you do drop off much-needed supplies, be sure to keep your distance from volunteers and foodbank users to avoid spreading coronavirus.

Jason Cartwright, founder of Give Food, said: "Even before coronavirus became a problem food banks were experiencing unprecedented demand, and the recent situation has created a real crisis.

"We're proud to be able to help InYourArea augment their hyperlocal service to help their users to discover what food banks near to them are requesting."

Liverpool Echo editor Alastair Machray said: "Online tools like this can help people in Liverpool and Merseyside make a real difference, specially during such a difficult time.

"I know Echo readers will use this one developed by In Your Area to ensure no-one is left behind and everyone is able to eat, whatever their circumstances."
