New coronavirus data reveals the Scottish council areas with the most Covid deaths

New data published today has revealed the Scottish council areas with the most coronavirus deaths.

Figures from the National Records of Scotland show that 9,725 deaths certificates registered in Scotland mentioned COVID-19.

NHS Ayrshire & Arran has recorded 870 virus-linked deaths since the pandemic started last year.

Across the three council areas East Ayrshire has registered 260 deaths; North Ayrshire has 342; and South Ayrshire has 268.

The area's health board has recorded a fourth consecutive week of declining deaths in the area.

Most recent figures from March 1 to March 7 show that 14 registered deaths in Ayrshire were linked to Covid.
