New contract numbers for Packers DL Dean Lowry

Here’s how the three-year contract extension for Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Dean Lowry looks, according to numbers obtained by Rob Demovsky of ESPN:

Year Base salary Signing Roster Workout Cap hit
2019 $2,050,000 $1,595,848     –      – $3,645,848
2020 $1,000,000 $1,500,000 $2,400,000 $300,000 $5,200,000
2021 $4,100,000 $1,500,000 $400,000 $300,000 $6,300,000
2022 $4,900,000 $1,500,000 $400,000 $500,000 $7,300,000

The Packers added the three years onto Lowry’s rookie deal, which had one year remaining, creating a four-year deal.

Overall, the new money totals $20.345 million. The overall deal is worth $22.25 million over four years.

Lowry’s $6 million signing bonus is pro-rated over the four years. Another $95,848 is added in 2019 from the signing bonus included in his rookie deal.

Lowry also receives a $2 million roster bonus before the 2020 season and yearly roster and workout bonuses totaling at least $700,000, starting in 2020. In 2022, the workout bonus rises to $500,000. The deal also includes Pro Bowl and sack escalators of $250,000 in 2020 and 2021.

Lowry’s contract will count $3,645,848 against the cap in 2019. It peaks at $7.3 million in 2022, the final year of the deal.

The Packers could get out of the deal following the 2020 season and save $4.8 million in 2021 and $10.4 million over the final two years, with a dead cap hit of only $3 million total.
