New confirmed cases of coronavirus rises by 37 in Lothians since Saturday

There are 37 new confirmed cases of coronavirus in the Lothians area since Saturday as the total rises to 188, according to the latest Scottish government figures.

1,384 who have tested positive for coronavirus across Scotland as new cases jumped by 139 overnight.

One patient who had tested positive for the virus has also died in the last 24 hours, as the death toll rises to 41 in Scotland.

There are also 401 confirmed cases in Glasgow, 107 in Tayside and 58 in Fife.

More than 13,800 tests have been carried out across Scotland, with 12,505 of those confirmed negative.

It emerged on Friday that Prime Minister Boris Johnson had tested positive for the disease, while the UK's death toll had rose to over 1,000 by Saturday.

The country remains in lockdown with measures aimed to cut social contact by at least 75% in an aim to slow the spread of the virus.

Around Edinburgh and the Lothians people have been pulling together during the crisis. An Edinburgh Royal Infirmary nurse has raised thousands of pounds for needy coronavirus patients, while a manager in Aldi has gone viral after surprising self-isolating shoppers with flowers.
