New Colts QB Philip Rivers accepts HS coaching gig in Alabama for when he wraps up NFL career

New Indianapolis Colts quarterback Philip Rivers has his post-NFL life figured out already.

On Friday Rivers was announced as the new head football coach at St. Michael Catholic High School in Fairhope, Ala.

Of course, Rivers won't be starting as the head coach there until he's done playing in the NFL. Rivers is currently playing on a one-year deal worth roughly $25 million.

"I had two childhood dreams," Rivers said after he was announced as the school's coach. "One was to play in the NFL, and I've been able to do that now going into my 17th season and I still love that. The other is to be a high school football coach as my dad did."

Rivers' father, Steve, was the head coach at Decatur High School in the 1980s. Rivers attended high school at Athens High School in Athens, Ala. Even though Rivers is excited about the opportunity to coach high school in his home state, he's still focused on playing well this season for the Colts.

"I've expressed publicly and the Colts have said too they hope it's more than one year," Rivers said according to al.com. "But we take it one year at a time. I love playing. When that time does end, you will get the same passion and work ethic at this school and community that I've poured into my career."

The start of Rivers' coaching career signifies the beginning of the end of a potential Hall of Fame career. Rivers is just shy of two major milestones. If he throws for just 729 more yards he'll become just the sixth quarterback to throw for 60,000 yards in a career. He is also just three shy of 400 career passing touchdowns.
