New College Lanarkshire informs students that face-to-face teaching is suspended due to Covid-19

New College Lanarkshire have taken the decision to suspend teaching its students face-to-face due to the ongoing concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.

The move came just an hour before the Scottish Government released the latest updated figures of those affected across Scotland.

There are now 21 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Lanarkshire, with two people having died in Scotland.

A total of 5,246 tests have concluded in Scotland of 5051 tests were negative, while 195 tested positive - that number is up 24 from the previous day.

There are no known cases of the virus affecting students or staff at the college, which has a campus in Motherwell as well as others in Coatbridge, Hamilton and Cumbernauld.

The college's management say that the safety of students and staff is their top priority, and they  are continuing to follow advice from the Scottish Government and the relevant health authorities.

An update on the college's website stated: "The Coronavirus Response Group have today taken the decision that all face-to-face teaching at New College Lanarkshire will cease from 1pm today (Tuesday, March 17).

"All students will receive communication on Monday 23 March from the College on our next steps.  Student funding will not be affected."
