New coffee and bakehouse plans for former Frankie and Benny's

A former Merseyside Frankie and Benny's restaurant could soon get a new lease of life.

Canadian Coffee chain Tim Hortons is planning to open a shop in Aintree.

The iconic brand plans to launch a coffee shop and drive-thru restaurant in a unit at Aintree Shopping Park, in a move that could create 30 jobs.

A planning application has been submitted to Sefton Council by Montagu Evans LLP on behalf of The Crown Estate, the freehold owner of the park, for the premises.

Frankie and Benny's used to occupy the unit, however, The Crown Estate has now agreed terms with F&B for the surrender of its lease, and the re-letting of the unit to Tim Hortons.

The plans come as the company also submitted proposals recently to open a store in Warrington.

The Crown Estate says it aims to "ensure that [the shopping park] is an attractive location for people to shop."

Other food outlets at the park include Greggs, McDonald's, and Nando's.

According to planning documents, the proposal would retain the existing six car parking spaces.

Tim Hortons was founded by former professional ice hockey player Tim Horton in 1964 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. It has since grown to have more than 4,500 stores from coast to coast.

The coffee and bakehouse chain opened its first store in the UK in 2017 and now has 29 units across all four countries, with more opening soon.

Its current focus is to expand its drive-thru model across the UK, including at the proposed Aintree site.

Sefton Council will likely make a decision on the application in the near future.
