A new Coatbridge business is celebrating opening its doors to the public, with its owners immediately showing their support for a good cause in the town.
Main Street Carpets welcomed its first customers last week, and local MSP Fulton MacGregor then cut a ribbon to mark its official opening at a special ceremony.
Business owners Colin Offord and Michelle Bowater ran a social media competition giving away a £200 voucher to mark the opening – and are donating a £100 voucher each month to Coatbridge foodbank to be raffled or used as a prize to encourage donations.
Their new store will also host a drop-off point for items for the foodbank and window signs show support for the local charity; who were represented at the official opening by volunteer Cathie Finestone.
Colin, who has worked in retail for 25 years including two decades as a flooring manager, is returning to his hometown for his first venture as a business owner.
He told Lanarkshire Live: “I’m from Coatbridge originally and still have family here, so I’ve come full circle; Main Street is a great location as everybody knows where it is and it’s nice to have something in the high street.
“We’ve had a really good first week and the response has been great. I’d thought about opening my own business for years and after the past 18 months I just thought it was time to go for it.”
Colin added: “We want to get involved in the community as much as possible by supporting the foodbank; we handed in donations this week when they’d put out an appeal and we’ll be giving them a voucher to give away each month.”
