New club overtake Aston Villa in chase for Chelsea star Ethan Ampadu amid reported Cardiff City and Swansea interest

Ethan Ampadu's immediate future remains up in the air after Frank Lampard confirmed Chelsea were looking to send the teenager out on loan.

New Chelsea boss Frank Lampard believes more game time elsewhere would be good for the 18-year-old, and he hasn’t travelled on pre-season tour to Japan while efforts are made to try and secure him a temporary move.

Now, German club RB Leipzig are said to be the frontrunners to secure a season-long loan for Ampadu.

The Sun report that RB Leipzig are leading the race to land his signature, with the German club said to be looking at offering the teenager regular football next season in Bundesliga and a chance in the Champions League.

Aston Villa and Cardiff City are also among the clubs to be linked with a move for the versatile defensive midfielder, while new Swans boss Steve Cooper admitted this week that Ampadu would be a "very good player" if he were to become available.

And when asked if he is interested in the eight-cap Wales star, Cooper said: "Ethan's a really good player.

"I think I read today that there might be a loan deal going on. I can't say we've had conversations with Chelsea but if he would be available then he'd be a very good player.

"But there's no news on that from Swansea's point of view."
