There are new claims the consortium looking to buy Newcastle are interested in buying Inter Milan following a week of explosive revelations about the group's bid to purchase the Magpies.
The Mirror claim that Staveley's consortium, which includes the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund and the Reuben brothers, are working on a deal to purchase the Italian giants.
It is an interesting new claim and follows speculation in Italy about PIF - although is at odds with our understanding that the consortium are still desperate to broker a deal for Newcastle, which is why Mike Ashley has taken the Premier League to arbitration.
Suning, Inter's current Chinese owners, are currently trying to find a buyer for the Serie A club.
The claim comes after a week that has seen revelations about the consortium's attempts to purchase the Magpies last year, with government documents revealing exactly how close the purchase was.
Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is reported to have urged Prime Minister Boris Johnson to intervene when the takeover was blocked by the Premier League, claiming it would damage relations between the two countries should the purchase not go through.
Johnson later backed calls for the Premier League to reveal why the takeover had not been passed.
The agreement between the consortium and Mike Ashley to buy the Magpies remains in place as Ashley awaits an arbitration hearing against the Premier League.
The latest report claims the consortium have now potentially started looking at other targets with Inter Milan in their sights.
Inter have been hit by the coronavirus pandemic and have been losing money, although the club sit top of Serie A, with their historic brand making them an attractive proposition to potential new owners.
Suning-owned Jiangsu FC was abruptly shut down in February, just three months on from winning their first Chinese league title, which sparked speculation over the future of Inter.
Saudi Arabia has courted the interest of Italian football for some time, having hosting the 2019 Supercoppa Italiana.
Sources close to the consortium, however, insist Newcastle is still their priority.
