New claims about Newcastle United takeover emerge

Newcastle United are 'privately confident' of obtaining Premier League approval for a revived takeover by the Saudi-led consortium.

That's according to a report from Football Insider, who claim a 'well-placed' source has stressed confidence from both sides of an agreement being reached in the coming months.

It has been a year since a Companies House update confirmed Amanda Staveley's PCP Capital Partners had struck a deal with Mike Ashley for the sale of the Magpies.

However, a frustrating wait due to the Premier League's owners' and directors' test led to to the consortium backed by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund to publicly confirm the takeover had broken down.

This disagreement prompted Ashley to initiate legal proceedings against the Premier League, and a three-man panel for an arbitration tribunal was confirmed last month.

Months of silence have dominated the long-running saga, but a new report claims a resolution could finally be reached by June or July.

Football Insider report a financial source insists a deal remains in place between Ashley and the prospective buyers.

The title also claim United are confident of receiving the 'green light' from the Premier League for the revival of the takeover, with the governing body's position on the deal reported to have 'thawed'.
