New city centre building to be given very special name if England win the Euros

A new apartment building in Manchester city centre will be named after Gareth Southgate if England win the Euros.

The 22-storey glass building, which is part of the MeadowSide development, is currently called the gate.

But developer FEC said the building's name will be changed to the manager's surname if the team make it to Sunday's final and bring home the trophy.

Andrew Bradley-Nixon, sales and marketing director at FEC, said: "Renaming the building seems a fitting way to honour the man behind England’s success.

"Along with the rest of the nation, we’ll be keeping our fingers firmly crossed during tonight’s game against Denmark and are willing the team on for a long-awaited tournament triumph.

"Although Southgate was never a red or blue, he can be an honorary Manc if get gets us the title.

"The Gate’s neighbouring sister building is the Stile, and we did consider a rename for that one too, but the Nobby definitely doesn’t have the same ring to it!"

The building overlooks Angel Meadow Park and is home to 200 one, two and three-bedroom apartments.

Work on the site is set to be completed later this year.
