A new Christmas book has brought an adventure to doorsteps in Derry with a last minute sled test run ending in disaster on the banks of the Foyle.
Robert Campbell's Sled Down is the perfect last-minute stocking filler or Christmas bedtime story for children across Derry.
In this Christmas book, disaster has struck and Santa’s sled has crashed days before Christmas.
Following an unauthorised, and rather acrobatic, test run along the Foyle, the sled whipped over, under and around the three bridges. Santa’s sled crashed somewhere on Iskaheen hill in neighbouring county Donegal.
Four young animal children must work together to save Santa's sled and save Christmas!
The crash causes some strange happenings to take place on Derry's walls.
In 'Sled Down', huge crowds in Derry gather to pay £5 to have their photo taken with an amazingly realistic looking Rudolph the reindeer.
Author Robert Campbell said: "The story is a nice Christmassy story. The children within the story have to work together to rescue the sled.
"They have to face their fears and use their talents. But it’s only because they can work together that everything ends up okay!"
Author Robert Campbell explained why this book is special, in its mention of several Derry landmarks to bring Christmas adventure to our doorstep.
He said: "It is set around the Foyle, the river and the lough. You have Iskaheen Hill in Donegal, there’s Culmore, the bridges and Derry’s Walls, and some other places around the city get a mention too.
"These kinds of stories are always set in glamorous locations like New York, or London, or Paris, or Sydney. But here is all pretty spectacular too, the architecture, the river, the bridges and the scenery!
"Sometimes we don’t see what we have because we see it all the time. Along with that, the kids enjoy Christmas here as much as anywhere else, so why not!"
Sled Down can be purchased at Little Acorns Bookstore on Derry's Foyle Street.
