New children's activity centre set to take over empty shops in Liverpool city centre

Plans for a new children's activity centre in Liverpool's Clayton Square have been approved by Liverpool Council.

The council's planning committee approved plans change the use of part of a number of retail units in the building so that Flip Out, an adventure and trampoline park chain, could open there.

Originating in Australia, the company operate a number of venues across the UK and already have a site in Aintree.

The company offers a series of trampolining and other activities and offers a range of programs for parties as well as events specifically tailored to both younger and older children and those with autism.

A representative of the applicant said the presence of activities like Flip Out could help children get active and fight issues like childhood obesity.

He said: "First and foremost they want to see children and parents active. They want to encourage fun but safe activities."

Liverpool Council's planning committee unanimously backed the plans, which could see Flip Out take over parts of Clayton Square that were occupied by Clas Ohlson and Peacock's.

The Clas Ohlson shop closed last year, while Peacocks announced back in February that it would shut its store in the shopping centre.

Clayton Square is Liverpool's fourth largest shopping centre and opened in 1989.
