OpenAI appears to be gearing up to launch a more affordable subscription tier for ChatGPT. As mentions of a new “ChatGPT Go” plan were spotted in the ChatGPT web app code. It indicates that a new pricing option might be on the way.

A screenshot that is roaming on the internet shows a code listing of all the available ChatGPT plans, including current ones like “chatgptfreeplan,” “chatgptplusplan,” “chatgptpro,” and “chatgptteamplan.” Interestingly, it also includes a new: chatgptgoplan, which hasn’t been officially announced by OpenAI yet.
At the moment, ChatGPT users can either access the platform for free or subscribe to the $20/month “ChatGPT Plus” plan. Businesses and enterprises also have access to the “ChatGPT Team” and “ChatGPT Enterprise” plans, which can cost hundreds per month. So there was clearly a gap for a truly budget plan for ChatGPT that could be priced below $5 per month.
While there is no official confirmation from the company, the term “Go” often implies a lightweight or budget version of a product. And given that ChatGPT has a large user base in a country like India, where the majority of the users are relying on the free tier. So there is a possibility that with this upcoming budget plan, OpenAI wants to target those regions where $20 is still a high price point for most users.
If launched, ChatGPT Go could make paid AI access more accessible to students, freelancers, and developers in price-sensitive markets without compromising too heavily on features or performance.
However, it’s worth noting that the development has come at a time when OpenAI is also expected to launch GPT-5 anytime now. A couple of days ago, Altman shared a screenshot of ChatGPT with the label “ChatGPT 5,” in response to a query about sci-fi series recommendations. The casual reveal has fueled speculation that GPT-5’s official launch may be closer than expected.
While GPT-5 will grab the majority of the headlines, the discovery of the new “Go” plan is also an important development, showing that, along with the new AI benchmarks, OpenAI is also working on improving accessibility and growing its global user base. Whether the new plan launches soon, or at all, remains to be seen, but the presence itself indicates that the company is exploring new ways to reach more users.
