New Charli XCX film 'could be' the end of Brat, singer says in interview

Pop artist Charli XCX has hinted that her forthcoming movie The Moment may mark the definitive close the Brat era.

The musician, 33, born Charlotte Aitchison, explained that while she wouldn’t rule out future projects connected to the album and the wider cultural wave that followed its 2024 release, she has no desire to return to touring it.

During an appearance on Vanity Fair’s Lie Detector series for a US audience, The Moment director Aidan Zamiri asked whether the film signalled the conclusion of Brat. In response, she said: "It could be, but it also could give it a bit of a boost, I don't know...

"As long as I don't have to go on tour and do more stuff... as long as I get to stay at home."

She later made it clear that she would like to pass responsibility for the movement on to her fans.

She also revealed that people have mistaken her for actor Mila Kunis, calling it "such a compliment" despite not seeing the resemblance herself.

She went on to say she has also been mistaken for American model Sasha Grey, which she described as "sick" because "she's sick".

When questioned about how she feels when people fail to recognise her, the Cambridge-born performer replied: "I think it depends how I'm feeling in myself that day.

"Like, sometimes it's like a real ego bash, and other times I'm fine with it."

After its launch in June 2024, Brat ignited intense online excitement and sparked the viral "Brat summer" trend influenced by the album’s neon green and black artwork.

The Moment, which is published in the UK on February 20, will present a parodied portrayal of that cultural moment.

The full interview can be seen on the Variety Fair YouTube channel.

Since launching her career in the 2000s, Charli XCX has secured nine UK top 10 singles, including two chart-toppers, as well as two UK number one albums.
