New chairman appointed to lead New Lanark Trust

A new chair has been appointed as at New Lanark Trust.

James Pow will lead the Scottish charity in their work to conserve and evolve the UNESCO world heritage site.

James' skills span manufacturing, supply chain, sales, marketing and branding.

A fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, the Institute of Directors and The Marketing Society, James has exceptional experience and is seen as a specialist in the retail sector at international level.

Of his appointment, James said: "I am excited to be taking on the role of chair at New Lanark, a place of global significance.

"I look forward to leading the trust as we work to recover from the challenges of the pandemic, ensuring that we are a sustainable business, a vibrant community and one of Scotland’s premier visitor attractions."

Retiring chairman Bill Howat said: "I am delighted that James has agreed to take on the role of chair.

"It has been a privilege to serve in that role and I wish James and New Lanark all the best for the future."

Three new trustees - Ewan McCall, Jonathan Russell and Ian Wall - will also be joining James on the New Lanark board.

Just last week it was announced that New Lanark is one of 13 locations now showcased in the world's first ever UNESCO trail - a virtual tourism phenomenon.

The platform encourages visitors to stay longer, visit all year round and explore more widely what areas have to offer - whilst contributing to the sustainable quality of life of communities around the designated sites.
