New chair of Plaid Cymru is announced

Plaid Cymru members have selected their new chair after voting took place at the party conference in Swansea.

It was between Dewi Evans and Alun Ffred Jones, the existing chair - during the party conference on Saturday afternoon, and Alun Ffred Jones was announced as winner.

Mr Jones is a former TV producer, writer and director and a former AM for Caernarfon and then Arfon.

He was nominated by Cardiff West and had vowed to "unite the party".

Dr Evans' pitch was to give a greater voice to grassroots members and up membership to 10,000.

He also said he would "seek an amnesty for expelled members" including Neil McEvoy and members from Llanelli.

However, Mr Jones said that was not the role - or within the remit - of the chair.

Mr Jones has been chair under both Adam Price and Leanne Wood.
