Renfrewshire youngsters keen to try out their skills on the hockey pitch can now join an all new juniors section launched by two of the area’s top clubs.
The New Centurions are an all new team now up and running in the area thanks to players from Anchor Hockey Club and Ferguslie Ladies Hockey Club.
Both clubs, which are on track to celebrate their 100th anniversary in the same year, decided they wanted to join forces to give youngsters an opportunity to try out the sport.
Aimed at ten to 14 year olds, the sessions take place weekly and teach the budding hockey players basic skills and how to play.
The first training session took place last week at the ON-X in Linwood, and Anchor club president David Stone was delighted with the turnout.

He told Express Sport: “Both clubs have been involved with one another for a long time and we wanted to bring some junior players into each of the clubs. After speaking with Renfrewshire Leisure, we decided it would be good to launch a team and get children aged ten to 14 involved.
“We have had a good response so far and we are hoping to bring in more kids as the training continues. The hope is that they come, try it out and enjoy it and eventually move into the senior teams at the clubs.

“We have been fortunate enough to get some grant funding to help supply them with kits too, so it keeps the costs down for parents.”
