New CCTV system coming to Briton Ferry to prevent crime and anti-social behaviour

Council staff are installing a new CCTV system in Briton Ferry as part of a bid to improve public safety.

Neath Port Talbot (NPT) Council workers are installing new cameras in the town and they are set to be up and running in a few weeks.

In a statement, NPT Council said the new system, which is being paid for by Briton Ferry Town Council, "will be used to protect people and property and be a deterrent to crime and anti-social behaviour". The new cameras "will feature the latest digital camera technology giving ultra high definition images", it adds.

Neither Briton Ferry nor NPT Council would say how much the new CCTV system for the town will cost, nor how it is being funded, when approached by the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Leanne Jones, deputy leader of NPT Council, said: “These cameras featuring the very latest digital technology are one of the many tools we use, working with the Safer Neath Port Talbot Community Safety Partnership and in this case, Briton Ferry Town Council, to make communities safer.

“A CCTV system like this also provides confidence and a visible presence to give reassurance to our communities and can provide evidence to bring those responsible for crime before the courts.

“We are delighted to be working with Briton Ferry Town Council on this important project.”

NPT Council is also seeking bids for a technology company to replace its old system in Port Talbot, Neath, Aberavon and Baglan, with a new one that will provide better quality images.
